Objectives

General Objective

To provide INPEC personnel with a renewed understanding of Substance Use Disorders through the Syntropía™ model, enabling them to recognize substance use as a process in motion—rather than as a label—thereby strengthening their capacity for support, management, and prevention within correctional settings.

Specific Aims

Present the foundations of a process-based perspective on persons as applied to Substance Use Disorders.

Recognize recurring patterns of substance use and how they manifest within correctional environments, supporting differentiated responses according to each staff member’s role.

Identify indicators of self-harm risk or risk of harm to others associated with different phases of the substance-use process, along with the corresponding referral pathways.

Promote institutional language and attitudes that support recovery by understanding substance-use episodes use as a transitional moment rather than a permanent condition.
